Sourcing | More Than Thrift Stores

Updated: Apr 24, 2023

Thrift Stores

Resellers are nothing but people who keep the poor from buying discounted items. Resellers are those who fund thrift shops and help keep them in business. Thrift stores are my primary source of inventory. In this business of used arbitrage, thrift stores are primary because they are available and reliable.

Available & Reliable

A reseller can trust in most cases that there is a local thrift store somewhere near them. New resellers can safely assume that a Google maps search will find one within a 15-minute drive. I believe the small secondhand stores are best. Walking into a thrift shop and having to step over items is a sign of adventure toward profit. In comparison to Goodwill, Salvation Army or Savers, etc. the locally owned establishments are gold mines. That’s not to write off Goodwill. The larger thrift stores are easier to navigate and receive large amounts of new donations. This leaves plenty of hunting ground for resellers of all experience levels plenty of opportunities to make money. Even if you live in California like me there is seasonal sourcing. Garage sales are not common during winter months and flea markets are equally dependent on weather conditions. Thrift stores are open and receive donations year-round. Thrift store are number one, but not the only one for sourcing.
